Dr. Mirjam van Tilborg is an optometrist, HBO Fellow in Dementia, and Senior Lecturer and Senior Researcher with the Technology Use in Care and Welfare research group. In this role, she coordinates the Supporting Citizens research programme, which focuses on people with dementia and their caregivers. Her research on dementia-friendly eye care explores how eye care and technology can support self-reliance, participation, and everyday activities for people living with dementia.
Mirjam studied Visual Sciences at City University London and completed her PhD at Cardiff University, Wales. She also works in private practice, where her first-hand clinical experience continues to shape her research and inspire her to improve the field of eye care.
In 2023, Mirjam received the Optometrists Association Netherlands Award for her crucial role in advancing optometry in the Netherlands through innovative teaching, active networking, and strengthening the connection between research, education, and clinical practice, both nationally and internationally. She also founded the European network Sensory Health Awareness, bringing together professionals with a shared interest in vision and hearing.
